Notes: Hallelujah you are cosplaying someone with short hair! Lucky for you this means less wig hairs to deal with, low cost, AND more comfortable! If you are tied between cosplaying someone with long hair vs short hair, IMMEDIATELY choose the short haired character.
Buying: Again, lucky for you, you can get them ANYWHERE! I would recommend AliExpress (the prices are unbeatable, all the reviews are by real people AND they take pictures of what they received and usually include what they liked & didn't like about that product) or Ebay too, because you can view costumer feedback, how many people bought that item in the past, seller reputation, and they have a guarantee you will get the product that is in the picture! You can pay with PayPal too! You can also get them on Amazon. When selecting a wig for your character,
avoid searching for the character name directly. For example, if I am going to cosplay Armin from Attack on Titan, searching 'Armin wig' will give you the results you are looking for BUT at a higher price. The sellers know that is a popular anime, so they raise the price on the wigs. INSTEAD of searching 'Armin wig' I would search 'blond bob-cut wig' and get way more results for cheaper. Although you may not find the exact result you are looking for, you can always take some scissors and make adjustments. Speaking of styling,
always buy a wig that is too long, not too short. If it is too short then your wig cap will show AND you cant make adjustments, but if its too long you can always cut it and make changes.
An example of the price difference between searching for the character's wig verses a general description:
-Armin wig: $10.00-15.00
-Blond Bob wig: $7.00-10.00
Styling: Got2B Glued is the cosplayers must-have. I would recommend the travel size because it is very small and runs for only $4.00-7.00. When cutting your wig, NEVER cut your wig with the scissors horizontally. It will look like a 5th grader cut your wig.
Cut your wig with the scissors vertically, cutting up into the fibers. It looks a lot cleaner and cuts ALL the layers of the fibers instead of just the top few layers. ALSO, when you decide to brush it, use a wide-tooth comb and NOT a human hair brush. It will pull out the fibers and make the wig thinner and see-through.
Maintaining: literally just throw it in your closet, it wont get messed up UNLESS you style it. If you style it and don't want your hours of styling to be ruined,
put your wig on a styrofoam wig head. These can be found at Hobby Lobby or on the internet for around $7.00-8.00. When you decide to brush it, use a wide-tooth comb and NOT a human hair brush. It will pull out the fibers and make the wig thinner and see-through.
LONG LENGTH WIGS
Notes: 1) welcome to hell 2) IF YOU GET ANYTHING OUT OF THIS IT WOULD BE THAT
MOTIONS OIL SHEEN SPRAY IS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR
Buying: As long as you have Motions Oil Sheen Spray you can buy any quality wig you want. The first long wig I ever bought was on Ebay, and it was pretty cheap. As soon as I took it out of the bag and placed it on my head it tangled and was a HUGE mess. At first I thought it was just the quality, but then I soon discovered (after buying a $40.00 wig off of Arda Wigs) its not the quality, its just wigs.
If you would like high-quality wigs (which I would recommend if getting a light colored wig), you can either get them for a wig store OR online at
Arda Wigs or
Epic Cosplay. You want a high-quality wig for light colored wigs because there is more fibers. If you have a thin white-colored wig, the back of your costume will show through and it will look very cheap and like your character ripped out almost all their hair :/
Maintaining: To keep your wigs from tangling the second after they are taken out of the bag, tag the wig, place it on a wig head, and
spray Motions Oil Sheen Spray on the wig. DO NOT touch the wig before you spray it. Running your fingers through the wig or 'trying it on really quick' will DESTROY the wig, and you'll have to spend HOURS (it takes me around 5 hours) detangling it. Spray the
Motions Oil Sheen Spray (can I say that enough?) on your wig and
let it dry for 48 hours. Yes, this is a long time to wait to touch your wig. Yes, your room now smells like Strawberry Pezz. Yes, I KNOW 48 HOURS IS A LONG TIME TO WAIT! Just be patient and you'll be able to use your wig for many years instead of 1 day before it turns into dreadlocks. Also, when you decide to brush it, use a wide-tooth comb and NOT a human hair brush. It will pull out the fibers and make the wig thinner and see-through.
Can I revive a wig in tangles?: Yes! I just did this today, actually! The $40.00 wig I mentioned earlier was ruined after it wore it for 7 hours one day. Just ONE con and it was it 3 large dreadlocks ;-; I washed the wig and detangled it and decided to find out what the craze was about
Motions Oil Sheen Spray. I waited the torturous 48 hours and was SO shocked at how different the wig was! It looked just like human hair, as it was more fluffy and less stringy. Not only this, but after wearing this wig to 2 all-weekend cons all I had to do was brush it for about 5 minutes and it was tangle free! It pulled out virtually no wig fibers either! When you decide to brush it, use a wide-tooth comb and NOT a human hair brush. It will pull out the fibers and make the wig thinner and see-through.
Styling: same as short-medium wigs, but add in the fact you will need TONS and TONS of bobby pins and hairspray
And that's pretty much it! If any of you guys need help with wig shopping/care/etc. then feel free to message me at anytime! If you are stuck between purchasing two wigs, I can help you decide which one looks the best for your character!
IMPORTANT LINKS/INFO:
-Motions Oil Sheen Spray can be found at Sally's Beauty Supply and POSSIBLY Walgreens or Walmart. IT IS NOT IN THE HAIR SPRAY ISLE! I found it near the African American hair-type products, near Relaxers (for hair).

UPDATE: WHERE DO I, PERSONALLY, BUY WIGS FROM?:
-Short-medium wigs: AliExpress (this site is FANTASTIC because not only are the items ridiculously cheap, but the reviews are from real people, and usually they'll take a picture of them in the wig or the wig once they get it. That way you know EXACTLY what you're buying and the pros and cons of that wig).
SIDENOTE: I also order all of my cosplays off of this site as well, as well as cosplay accessories.
-Long wigs: AliExpress OR Wigaholics
www.wigaholics.com/ (they are having a 50% off sale for their Grand Opening and all of these quality wigs are in the $15.00-$20.00 range!), if not, I use EpicCosplay wigs, but those tend to be pricey. DEFINITELY purchase something that's on sale/clearance
